FRG-7000 Gilfer Mods
These
modifications were developed for the FRG-7.
The circuitry of the the FRG-7 and the FRG 7000 as far as
operation of the AGC goes, is pretty much identical and so
the AGC modification can also be applied to the FRG-7000.
The FRG-7 and the FRG-7000 vary in the filter circuitry in
the IF stage, the FRG-7 having only one filter and the
FRG-7000 having two filters - one for AM and one for SSB.
The filter modification is therefore not so relevant to the
FRG-7000 unless you still desire to reduce the filter
bandwith - perhaps on AM - to less than the factory fitted
one.
These are two modifications, one dealing with the operation
of the AGC, that gives a faster AGC operation so that the
meter responds quicker to varying signal strengths and also
causing the receiver to operate better with a rapidly
varying signal.
The second modification is intended to reduce unwanted noise
received with the signal when receiving SSB and CW and
applys more to the FRG-7 than the FRG-7000 as the FRG-7000
switches to a factory fitted narrow filter when receiving
SSB and CW.
